Coming home early was planned in advance but that was on the premise of getting those two girls together. It was my way of crossing the divide and getting Brooke to spend some quality time in a woman’s arms. Jealousy didn’t play into it but I was damned and determined to be there to see my machinations at work.

I was lucky to find an earlier flight. It wasn’t like I had to stick around when I had my right-hand man doing most of the heavy lifting. My contribution was being the face of the company. Giving them a few choice words had made all the world of difference.

“I think that you will be pleasantly surprised. I made sure that everything was in place before your arrival. They should be on their way to their final destination in a few minutes. I’m guessing it won’t take Colleen very long to wrap her around her little finger. It’s interesting to be a part of this close-knit group of friends. I have to take the bar exam in less than a month,” Julia hinted and I was not amused by her subtle cues of working for me.

“You have been an invaluable part of my operation. My staff has been available to you for the past few months. I don’t know what happens behind closed doors, and it’s none of my business. They have been quite vocal about your progress.”

“Randal has been an invaluable resource,” Julia stammered.

“Randal has been singing your praises, but he can’t be impartial when he’s dating you, which is the reason why I have separated the two of you when it comes to your studies. I don’t think that it’s unreasonable to assume what would happen. Not much studying would be done, and that would be counterproductive. I don’t mind you being with him. My personal opinion is that you probably couldn’t do better.” I gave her my advice and she was nodding her head with a little smirk on her face to indicate that they were still in the touching mode.

“This one-month rule is killing me, but it’s also building anticipation until something is going to blow. I like that he can be patient, but I can also enjoy his other pursuits in the same room. There’s no jealousy between us. Sex and love are not the same things. Most people can’t make the distinction between the two.” She doffed her chauffer hat with a tip of her hand, but I was more interested in the windows to the soul.

“I think the world of both of you and I want you to be happy together. It’s going to drive you both crazy waiting for this one-month rule to elapse. In the meantime, I think you should join us for some afternoon fun. I doubt anybody is going to complain when you walk through the door with me. It might even make Brooke forget about how I have manipulated this situation.” I picked up my phone and sent a text message to Colleen.
